As I've mentioned before, I always love having a party in the works. My next upcoming party is inspired by my summer spent in Sweden--a Midsummer Party!
Here's the rough draft of the invite:
What you need to know:
- This is the second most celebrated holiday in Sweden following Christmas, and there have been serious discussions to make this holiday the National Day of Sweden
- Typically people retreat to the countryside with family to celebrate
- Midsummer is technically the period of time centered upon the summer solstice, and the holiday falls on Midsummer's Eve
- This holiday starts around 2/3pm and lasts until around 2am, (and the sun usually sets around midnight!)
- This holiday involves LOTS of day drinking, singing and shots, a maypole (if you're thinking it looks a bit phallic, this is a holiday that celebrates fertility), flower crowns, games, and general joy

Definitely check out this video: Midsummer for DummiesFor food, I plan on making potato salad, a strawberry cake, and a few other side dishes. We'll play games and take Swedish shots!
I'll check back in at the end of June to report on how it went!
