Parties | Swedish Midsummer!

After a really successful Midsummer party, I have decided to throw a Midsummer party every year. It was SO fun! Here was my post about planning the party. There was good food, good drinks, and fun activities and games. We started the party around 4pm and it wrapped up around 10pm after the sun set. We had beautiful weather so it was a great night to have a Midsummer picnic and appreciate Swedish Culture.

The Food
  • Potato Salad
    • I used regular potatoes, about 7 pounds of them!
  • I was going to make this strawberry cake, but Shaw's had a great cake on sale, so I cheated and went with store-bought.
  • Chokladbollar, a traditional Swedish no bake chocolate oats treat
  • Cheese and crackers, pretzels, carrots, popcorn
  • Herring!
    • This is a traditional food for the holiday, so I picked up a can of herring, and I was surprised when someone actually ate it!

The Activities
  • Flower Crown Making--this should be done at every party! The women loved having flower crowns and it was a really fun activity
  • Shots! People typically sing a Swedish song and then take a shot. We didn't know any songs, so we sang Abba's "Dancing Queen." After every song it is traditional to say skål (cheers).

The Game
  • Kubb, aka Viking Chess
    • Awesome lawn game that can involve as few as 2 people and as many as 12!
